This noborigama or climbing kiln is at the Ichiyogama in Bizen. Each section of the kiln has two shelves. The projections on the side are bricks that can be removed to allow the addition of wood direction into this section during the last phases of firing. There is a tall brick chimney at the back of the kiln that is not in the photograph.
