Hagi-yaki, as pottery from there is called, is generally of a delicate nature. The pieces are thrown with comparatively thin walls. The firing color of the clay ranges from a light tan through shades of reddish brown. When covered with a thin feldspar based glaze, the clay takes on pinkish tones. The result is a feeling of great warmth and delicacy. Hagi potters are famed for making tea bowls, sets of cups for drinking tea, and the caddies in which tea is stored.
