Journalism

I have added a new link in the left menu. One of my acquaintenances attended a memorial for one time respected San Jose Mercury News journalist, Gary Webb. Afterwards, he wrote his impressions. They are well worth reading.

In addition, I find the column on the subject by Mercury News writer, Scott Herhold, to be worth reading, as Scott accepts that some of the blame for what happened should fall on the Mercury News.

It might be serendipitous, but at the same time I am reading John Smolens' novel, the invisible world. Here is another case where a journalist has his career ended for asking too many questions and following a story too long.

Those who have faith in the ability of journalism to reveal the truth in any meaningful way should take heed. There is a growing feeling that what we get is what someone wants us to believe.
