Recall Aftermath

It appears that the result of the recall election will be that Gov. Davis will be recalled and the trend in votes is that Schwarzenegger will be the new governor. There is also a trend in recent state politics to see the legislature dominated by political ideologues who are more interested in creating the conditions for gaining more power than they are in solving the problems of this state.

I fully anticipate that the Democratic controlled legislature, bent on revenge, will send Schwarzenegger a series of bills that he can only veto and then attack him for his incompetence. On the other hand, if Governor Davis were to keep his job or Bustamante were to win, I would expect the most conservative factions in the Republican Party to become even more belligerent and uncooperative as they seek to prove the supporting Arnold was wrong.

The only alternative that will avoid this is to vote for the recall and also for Peter Camejo. He is a progressive and will more easily find a way to work with the Democratic majority to effect real change in the way that this state manages government. He might even make it work for the people of California instead of for the large campaign donors.
